| Welcome to my website!
Eating
disorders (ED) are not formed solely by food preoccupations and
eating behaviors. ED's in fact, are the symptoms that mask
real underlying psychological and biological problems. Individuals
challenged by their eating behaviors (e.g., restricting, binging,
purging, excessive exercise, laxatives, caffeine [and other drug
use], etc.) need to be reassured that letting go of real problems
ultimately leads to a rewarding and fulfilling life.
Another
common misconception to ED's is that it is a female only disorder.
On the contrary, males account for approximately 1% of anorexia
nervosa (AN), 20% of bulimia nervosa (BN), and 40% of binge eating
disorder (BED). These statistics were made available through
the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) however they may
be understated given available research with males.
Often
times a combination of counseling, nutritional guidance, and medical
monitoring, particularly from recovered specialists, are the tools
needed to greater understanding and insight of one's problems.
Similarly, early detection is critical for enhanced recovery.
During these stages individuals are more likely to demonstrate a
clearer understanding of their behaviors before deterioration of
cognitions and physical health become more prevalent.
This
website is designed for individuals to evaluate their own conditions
in a private manner. It is filled with the latest research
facts along with suggested reading material and internet links providing
extensive ED information.
